On September 12th 1983, Aiseiri Treatment Centre. was opened on property close to the convent which the community purchased for the purpose. Aiseiri is a registered charity, providing quality treatment in a relaxing environment for alcoholics and other chemically dependent people. It was founded by Sr. Eileen Fahey who saw the need for such a centre during her years as a nurse in St. Joseph’s and St. Michael’s hospitals, Clonmel. She spent some time in the Rutland Street Centre, Dublin, for experience and then trained in America. The Centre provides a residential programme that lasts thirty days and also after care for a period of two years. A family support programme is also included. The staff consists of professional counsellors, some of whom have the added experience of being themselves as recovering alcoholics. This venture has been eminently successful and has brought new life to hundreds of individuals and families. As a tribute to its success, Eileen Fahey was among those named ‘Person of the Year’ in 1993 and received her reward at a ceremony at the Burlington Hotel, Dublin.
